Part I. After the Fall
Adam and Eve engage in a humorous repartee, each blaming the other for the "mess" they are in. Realizing that they are estranged from God and have only each other to rely on in this strange world outside the garden, the couple pledge to one another their love and faithfulness.

Part 2. After Cain Kills Abel
Adam breaks the news to Eve that Abel is dead and Cain has run away. Heartbroken, the two reflect on their roles as parents, wondering exactly what they had done wrong in raising their sons. The idea of raising more children occurs to them as they discuss what things they would do differently.

Part 3. After Eve's Death
A poignant soliloquy by Adam as he visits Eve's grave for the first time. First sadness, then anger, then gentle acceptance overcome Adam during his "conversation" with Eve. As he turns to leave, Adam finally repeats the three little words that he has been unable to express during the course of the drama: "I love you."
