AC-10 "FOLLOWING YONDER STAR"
(1 hour, Actors: Children (Unlimited number), Adults (3 Wise Men, Sargis, Herod, Captain, 2 Soldiers, and Innkeeper have speaking roles, Extras in the inn and Holy Family do not speak)

The mischievous children have hidden all of the Christmas ornaments, including the Star for the top of the tree, and Dad doesn't know what to do. Grandpa comes to the rescue, as he settles the children and begins to weave a marvelous story about three wise men, their servant, and the star that they followed to a very special place. The wise men's journey is full of discourse on the coming Messiah. Will he bring perfect peace and justice for all people on earth? It is Sargis, Gaspar's servant and friend, who speaks of a Messiah who is coming to change the hearts of men and women, one by one. "Sargis, I believe you are the wisest man here," remarks Gaspar.

The journey proceeds to Herod, who informs the travelers where they might find the new Messiah. In return, they disclose to Herod that the new Messiah is a male, born not long before or very soon to be born. The wise men depart for Bethlehem, while Herod and the Captain of the Guard devise a plan to "eliminate the threat" to Herod's rule.

At last Sargis and the Wise Men arrive at the Inn where they are threatened by Roman soldiers. Sargis quickly comes to their rescue and averts an "international incident." Meanwhile, the innkeeper leads the royal visitors to a stable where the Holy Family welcomes them and they present their gifts to the Christ child.

As the story draws to a close, the children now understand the importance of the brilliant star. They retrieve the hidden ornament, and Dad places it on the tree as everyone sings a favorite Christmas song.

Act I: What changes will God's Messiah bring to the world? Perfect peace? Justice for all people? The wise old servant believes that the Messiah will change the hearts of individual men and women, one by one, and in so doing, change the whole world.

Act II: The four travelers have an interview with Herod. "When you have found the child, come back and tell me where he is, so that I may honor him as well," implores the wicked ruler. After his guests depart, Herod and the Captain of the Guard plot to eliminate the child messiah.

Act III: The four travelers arrive at an Inn and find God's promised Messiah. "Return to Herod? No, we must go home another way." No one can meet God's Messiah and go the same way!
