(4 dramas for Advent with brief commentaries and sermon suggestions.)
1. John the Baptizer, a fictitious president of a seminary, his
secretary - Is nothing sacred? Certainly this seminary administrator does not reflect upon all
church hierarchy, but he does represent those who have become
blinded by red tape, stuck in a bog of hypocrisy, and overcome
by the power of big business. Have we lost sight of our true
role as God's church in this world? John the Baptizer pits his
strong, yet simple faith against that of the very highly educated
theologian.
2. John the Baptizer, Priests - A wise-cracking
John trades quips with three curious priests. One priest is nearly convinced, but stops short of
being baptized. "What would the others say?"
3. John the Baptizer and the crowd (7 small parts) - While angry clergymen
cast dispersions, tax collectors, soldiers, and others learn
that they, too, have callings from God and must do their jobs
honestly and fairly.
4. John the Baptizer and Jesus - John "finishes his course as Jesus begins his."
