AC-07 "WAITING FOR THE KING"

Excerpt From Drama 2 - "The Wise Man and His Servant"
Characters:

Melchior: Man in his thirties or forties can play the part. He is causally dressed.
Sargis: An older man in his sixties, servant to Melchior.

As the drama begins the wise man is working over his charts. He stands and walks t o the sextant and peers toward the sky. After a few moments he returns to his charts. He writes down information on the charts.

Mel: (With sudden excitement.) That's it! That's it! I think I may have made the discovery of the century, no, the millennium, no, the greatest discovery of all time! Now if I would just get some word from one of my colleagues confirming my theory. (Sargis enters carrying a tray with a pot of coffee, a cup, and a sandwich.)

Sargis: My Lord Melchior--

Mel: Sargis, you have known me for twenty-seven years now. You have been like a second father to me. You served my father and now you serve me. So, please stop calling me "My Lord Melchior."

Sargis: Yes, My Lord--

Mel: Ahemmm.

Sargis: (With some difficulty.) Yes, M, M, Mel-Melchior.

Mel: Was that so tough?

Sargis: As a matter of fact, it was. You know the proprieties must always be kept.

Mel: But you are not my slave. There are no proprieties when it comes--

Sargis: Mel, Melchior, I always called your father Lord, and our relationship was wonderful. I was his trusted confidant, and we shared many wonderful moments together. But I always knew my place.

Mel: (He smiles.) All right, have it your way.

Sargis: You have been working late again. I thought you could use some refreshment.

Mel: (He looks at his watch.) It's after two A.M. I didn't realize how late it was. You know, (He takes a bite of the sandwich.) you don't have to stay up this late.

Sargis: Yes, I do. I stayed up for your father, and I will stay up for you.

Mel: But I am not a little boy. I can take care of myself.

Sargis: Years ago I pledged my loyalty to your father and his family. On his death bed he thanked me for being such a good friend, and he asked only one thing.

Mel: What was that?

Sargis: That I serve you as I served him. I made a promise and I intend to keep it. Now, what is it that has kept you up so late these past seven months? You live for the night.

Mel: Yes, yes I do. That's because of what has been happening in the heavens for the past seven months.

Excerpt From Drama 4 - "The Angels in the Ready Room"
Angel 3: Is that the target area?

Angel 4: Yes it is, son.

Angel 3: That doesn't make any sense. According to my map that's nothing but pasture land.

Angel 4: That's right.

Angel 3: What are we going to destroy out there?

Angel 4: You are not going to destroy anything.

Angel 3: What?

Angel 2: Didn't they teach you anything at the academy about holding your questions until the end?

Angel 3: Sorry.

Angel 4: (He pulls an envelope out of his pocket.) Here are your orders. Remember, once you hear these orders, you go nowhere but to your target zone. (He opens the envelope.) You will make contact with ground personnel at exactly 0100 hours, namely 4 to 5 shepherds.

Angel 3: Shepherds?

Angel 4: Yes, shepherds. Captain, you will announce to them, in these exact words:
"I bring you good news of a great joy. Today in the city of David, a Savior has been born--"

Angel 2: (He jumps up.) YESSSSSS!

Angel 4: At ease. At ease. (Angel 2 sits.) ". . .a Savior has been born to you, and he is called Christ the Lord. And here is a sign for you, you shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger." The rest of you will do a fly over and say, "Glory to God in the highest and peace to his people on earth." (Angel 3 his head hung low.) Any questions? (He pauses.) What's wrong, Lieutenant?

Angel 3: Don't we get to destroy anything?

Angel 2: Yes, we get to destroy the power of Satan by ushering the Son of God into the world. The Christ child will destroy Satan's grip over all people through his serving, dying, and rising.

Angel 1: You see, ever since Adam and Eve, God has been pretty much on the defensive, but tonight God goes on the offense. He is going to crush the evil one's head, just as he promised to Adam and Eve.

Angel 4: God is going to take back all those whom Satan has been holding hostage since the Fall of humanity. Today, God is going to build the Kingdom that he promised to David over one thousand years ago. Today, the light to lighten the gentiles and the glory of Israel is coming into the world.

Angel 1: So, what do you think, kid? Not bad for your first mission.

Angel 3: (He holds his thumb up.) I say let's go! (Angels 1, 2, and 3 salute their senior officer and Angel 4 returns the salute. The three exit.)

Angel 4: (He watches them until they are gone.) Now we wait to see how many of them will come back. This is truly the dawn of a new day. (He exits.)
